Christmas and New Year Ringing
Ringing times will again vary in the run-up to Christmas and over New Year as follows:
ROLL OF HONOUR Updated - 28 men killed in action added to the Roll of Honour up to the end of 1917. It is our intention that a quarter peal will be rung on or around the date of their death to mark the ultimate sacrifice made by these local men
ESSEX retain the Essex Trophy with a win in the 10 Bell Striking Competition at Writtle

ESSEX TROPHY 10 BELL STRIKING COMPETITION at Writtle on Saturday 10th September, draw at 12 noon with ringing from 12.30pm. Bands from Essex, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Guildford will compete for the trophy ringing a touch of Grandsire Caters (287 changes).
The Essex Trophy is a ringing competition between teams of 10 ringers representing various counties and dioceses in SE England. There will be a live feed of the ringing in the church, and you can talk to some of the many ringers who will be taking part who can tell you more about the ancient English tradition of change ringing.

Writtle took part in the Essex Association 6 Bell Striking Competition Finals at Mistley on Saturday 9th July where we were place third.
Writtle came second in the SE District Striking Competition held at Gt Totham on Saturday 14th May. We rang Grandsire Doubles and received 40 faults, some 14 1/2 faults behind Chelmsford Cathedral. Both teams go forward to the Essex Association finals at Mistley on Saturday 9th July.
EASTER RINGING
Please note the following ringing times over Easter;
Sunday 20th March – Palm Sunday, ringing from 9.45am for 10.45 am Service (we will finish ringing at 10.30am as the congregation process from the Christian Centre to church via the Green).
Tuesday 22nd March – Holy Week, no practice ringing
Sunday 27th March – Easter Sunday, ringing from 10am for 10.45am Service. Please note there is no 8am Service!
Tuesday 29th March – Normal practice night
Ringing times will again vary in the run-up to Christmas and over New Year as follows:
- Thursday 22 December – 7.30pm Adult learners
- Saturday 24 December – 4pm for 5pm Crib Service (possible QP or general ringing)
- Saturday 24 December – 10.45pm for 11.30pm Midnight Mass
- Christmas Day 25 December – 9.15am for 10am Service
- Tuesday 27 December (Bank Holiday) – Practice cancelled
- Saturday 31 December – from 11.15pm to ring out the old year and ring in the new year
- Sunday 1 January – 10.15am for 11am
- Tuesday 3 January – Normal practice (with young leaners at 6.30pm)
